Effects of Handrail Details on Vortex-Induced Vibration for a Box-Girder Bridge

چکیده

Evaluating the aerodynamic instability of a bridge girder fitted with attachments such as handrails is critical for wind-resistance design long-span bridge. However, effects detailed configuration on performance have not been sufficiently studied. In this study, heaving vortex-induced vibration (VIV) box-girder was evaluated nongrid and grid-like handrail cases by free wind tunnel tests. The VIV amplitude decreased increase in porosity ratio handrails. behaviors are different from ones. For handrails, reduced number side middle horizontal bars. increasing vertical bars adverse whereas had no influence VIV. This study also provides new ideas optimization good properties simplification models evaluating process.

Drying and Cracking Effects in Box-girder Bridge Segment

This paper deals with the effect of drying as a moisture diffusion process in a segment of a typical box-girder bridge. Pore relative humidity distributions throughout the cross sections of the plates of the girder are calculated from the diffusion equation, taking its nonlinearity and aging into account. The effect of creep with aging on the stresses produced by drying shrinkage is taken into ...

Load Test and Model Calibration of a Horizontally Curved Steel Box-Girder Bridge

In this paper, full scale load test of a horizontally curved steel box-girder bridge is carried out in order to detect structural defects, which reportedly result in unwanted vibrations in nearby buildings. The bridge is tested under the passage of six heavy vehicles at different speeds, so as to determine its static and dynamic responses. A total number of one hundred and two (102) sensors are...

a numerical model of vortex-induced vibration on marine risers

the steger and warming flux vector splitting implicit scheme is used to numerically solve two dimensional reynolds averaged navier–stokes (rans) equations governing the vortex induced vibration of a flexible riser laterally supported by a spring and a damper. the k–ε model is used as turbulence model to simulate the turbulent flow in the wake of the riser. to update the new position of the rise...

Suppressing the Vortex-induced Vibration of a Bridge Deck via Suction

Article history: Received: 27.6.2015. Received in revised form: 26.11.2015. Accepted: 1.12.2015. This paper presents experimental and numerical study with the objective of exploring the effect of suction control on vortex-induced vibration (VIV) of a bridge deck. The vertical and torsional responses of the model with or without suction control during this experiment were measured. The results d...
